Project:

Royal Mail, Princess Royal

Location: London, Willesden
Description:

The distribution centre included a major network link with British Rail and a terminal linking the underground with Paddington Station. The distribution centre incorporates a
10,000m2 fully automated distribution hall including 3,400m2 of office and welfare accommodation and maintenance facilities. The rail interface concourse and the rail trace enclosure dimensions are 80m wide and 250m
long. The ‘hub’ will handle 2.1 millions items of post a day as the central hub for UK distribution. Foreman Roberts was responsible for the building services for the entire facility including the interface with Railtrack. Design options were
evaluated including modelling of the effect of diesel engines entering a working environment. The extensive electrical installations included infrastructure for Railnet’s 25000 volt systems, 850 volt train ‘shore’ supplies and 11kV HV
generators.
